Dr. Ilene Wong, a West Chester resident, has penned a new young adult novel, This Is My Brain in Love, in which she mixes teen romance with more serious subjects such as racial identities, socio-economic status, and mental health, writes Melissa Jacobs for Main Line Today.
Wong – a surgical specialist with Academic Urology who practices at Chester County, Paoli, and Brandywine hospitals – writes young adult fiction under the pseudonym I.W. Gregorio. She created this using her initials and her husband Joe’s last name.
Her first book, None of the Above, is currently in its fifth hardcover and second paperback printings. A Hollywood production company has optioned the rights for a potential television series.
In her latest book, Jocelyn Wu, whose family runs a tasty but unprofitable restaurant, meets Will Domenici, a high school journalist. The two are drawn to each other, but family tensions and mental health struggles keep pulling them apart.
The book has an April release date.
“In addition to being a good story, I hope the book is a conduit to honest conversations about teen mental health,” said Wong.
