From His New Wheelchair, Retired Police Dog Keeps Hallways of This Local High School Safe

By

Yukon, a retired K-9 officer, has found a new purpose in life by keeping the hallways of the Technical College High School in West Grove safe, according to a report from FOX 29.

Yukon became known in the Philadelphia area after he was featured as an “Underdog of the Day” on FOX 29’s Good Day during the Eagles’ Super Bowl run. Yukon visited the studio alongside Corporal Brian Holt of the Chester County Sheriff’s Office.

A year later, the dog retired and was officially adopted by the Holt family.

But Yukon soon began exhibiting signs of depression and degenerative myelopathy, a genetic disorder that results in hind limb weakness and paralysis.

Still, he continues to push through. The retired K-9 now has a new wheelchair – and a new pair of booties – along with a new job: patrolling the hallways of TCHS.

Meanwhile, the students who take care of him have been provided with the opportunity to learn more about the degenerative disease, as well as compassion and caring.
