Coronavirus Wipes Out Wawa Tradition: Self-Service Coffee, Soda

By

The days of going to the Wawa to pour yourself some coffee or to hit up the soda machine are gone, at least for now, writes Victor Fiorillo for Philadelphia magazine.

In deference to public health and curtailing COVID-19, Wawa no longer offers self-service coffee.

Now, customers will have to tell a Wawa associate what kind of coffee they want and how they want it. Self-serve sodas, Icees, cappuccinos, and iced coffees are gone, too.

If you want a donut, you’ll find it wrapped in plastic.

“As the situation surrounding COVID-19 continues to evolve, Wawa is doing everything we can to support the communities and customers that rely on us every day,” reads a statement on Wawa’s website.

There’s more.

In order to stay vigilant in the fight against the virus, Wawa stores previously 24 hours will now close between 2 and 3 AM for “additional cleaning, sanitizing, and restocking.”
