Fenimore Park in Wayne had an unexpected visitor in one of its ponds last week, according to a report from Main Line Media News.

Radnor police reported that an alligator gar fish was found dead by a resident at the park. The fish is normally found in warmer Gulf of Mexico waters. It is among the largest freshwater fish in North America.

The fish cannot live in the cold water, according to the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission. It was turned over to the commission for preservation and educational purposes.

Police also issued an advisory to residents to not try to relocate rare pets in township parks. Instead, call police, who can track down the resources to handle the creature.

According to Wikipedia, alligator gar fish get their name because of their resemblance to the American alligator, with its broad snout and long, sharp teeth. It’s been reported that alligator gar can grow up to 10 feet.
