West Chester University men’s basketball player Robbie Heath is the leading freshman scorer in Division II in the nation, writes Mike Jensen for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Heath’s father grew up in the Philadelphia suburbs but left to play professional basketball in Australia, where he met his wife and started a family.

After it became obvious that Robbie had basketball potential, his parents decided to split the family between the two continents to make sure he had the opportunity to fully explore his potential.

The move paid off. Averaging 24 points per game, Heath is now the top scorer in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

Heath got to this point through hard work and perseverance. He is happy to be playing for the Golden Rams and set a goal of becoming the PSAC Player of the Year.

“West Chester was the only one that came to me and was truthful — they wanted me,’’ Heath said. “Everyone else, I had to contact, which I felt was not the way to go.”
