The nonprofit Phoenixville Area Time Bank will soon move into its first office in a building located on the grounds of the Phoenixville Hospital, writes Mari Schaefer for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The group will rent the space for $1 a month and share the common area with other nonprofits.

“This is huge for us,” said Diana Baldi, Phoenixville Area Time Bank president.

The move into the official office will help raise the group’s visibility and improve accessibility for everybody in the community. The nonprofit plans to open its office in late February.

A time bank is an organization where volunteers can “deposit” their time to other people’s tasks and projects and also “withdraw” the time from others when they need assistance.

The Phoenixville Area Time Bank was started 16 years ago. Its goal is to recognize that everyone has a value, foster stronger community, and reward civic engagement with a pay-it-forward approach to volunteering.

Since then, the nonprofit has been going strong. In 2018, 750 members have already exchanged 1,708 hours for help with various tasks, with another 1,581 hours contributed.
