One of the latest additions to the ever-evolving restaurant scene in West Chester, Meatball U offers delicious meals in college-inspired surroundings, writes Michael Klein for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The eatery was opened by Dan Shea and Morgan Harris around Thanksgiving. The business is based on a recipe by Shea’s stepfather, Richard Quintano, that has been in the making for 35 years.

In 1985, Shea bought a vendor’s license from Avalon, N.J., so he could sell meatball sandwiches and sodas out of his SUV. However, life took him in another direction, and the idea was set aside.

Decades later, he decided to revisit it and, along with Harris, opened a restaurant near West Chester University. The proximity to WCU factors into the eatery’s college motif, which includes pennants, wood paneling, lots of lights, and late hours three times a week.

The menu also expanded from just featuring meatball-related meals to include pasta and salads. However, meatballs are still the main focus.
