Malvern’s Endo Settles with State of Oklahoma over Its Alleged Role in Opioid Crisis

By

Two subsidiaries of Malvern-based Endo International have agreed to pay $8.75 million to Oklahoma to resolve the investigation into its alleged role in the state’s opioid crisis, writes John George for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

According to the settlement agreement, Endo Pharmaceuticals and Par Pharmaceuticals admitted to no wrongdoing or liability.

The company said that the amount it had agreed to in the settlement is a fraction of the amounts associated with the settlements and judgments for other opioid manufacturers in the state. These include Purdue Pharma, which last year agreed to pay $270 million in a settlement with Oklahoma, and Tava Pharmaceutical Industries, which paid a settlement of $85 million.

So far, more than 2,000 governments at the state, county, and local levels have filed lawsuits against manufacturers and distributors of opioid pain relief products. Their aim is to hold these companies partially responsible for the addiction epidemic across the country.

“Endo is very pleased to have reached a resolution with Oklahoma for $8.75 million,” said Matthew J. Maletta, Endo’s executive vice president and chief legal officer.
