Amanda Sundquist, who was born in the state of Washington and moved to East Goshen when she was in third grade, is a Partner at Unruh, Turner, Burke & Frees, a law firm in West Chester.

Sundquist earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology from Bucknell University and her law degree from the University of Richmond. She credits her colleague, Ross Unruh, with having the biggest impact on her career.

“When I was hired by Unruh, Turner, Burke & Frees, I was assigned to work in both the litigation and municipal departments,” said Sundquist, who began working as a swimming instructor when she was 14. “Ross recognized early on that my strengths were ideal for municipal law and made the decision to move me into the municipal department full time. He has taught me how to be a municipal attorney and made sure I had the variety of work and client opportunities necessary to grow my practice.”

With many of her clients in the public sector, Sundquist gains a lot of satisfaction in her daily work.

“Helping them accomplish their projects or resolve challenges means you’re helping the community,” she said. “In regard to court cases, I was particularly proud of the result I had for the county in Schwartz v. Chester County Agricultural Land Preservation Board and Arborganic Acres. Not only was I able to preserve the board’s ability exercise its own prosecutorial discretion when it came to enforcement matters, the Commonwealth Court determined that the appellant did not have third-party standing to take enforcement actions, which has far-reaching implications for agricultural, open space, and land preservation easements throughout the state.”

Sundquist’s favorite Chester County restaurant is Bar Avalon in West Chester, where she held her rehearsal dinner and her daughter’s baptism luncheon.
