Michael Hewes

Unionville High School senior Michael Hewes has been named an All-American soccer player, making him the first-ever soccer player from the school to earn such an honor, according to a report from the Southern Chester County Weeklies.

The United Soccer Coaches recently announced the 2019 High School Boys and Girls All-America Teams. Hewes found himself in the exclusive company of only 131 High School All-Americans – 72 boys and 59 girls – who were selected.

The announcement came shortly after Hewes completed his final season at Unionville. During the fall, he broke the program’s 34-year-old record for the most points scored in a career. He scored 59 goals and assisted on 26 others during his time with the Indians.

“It means a lot,” said Hewes. “I have been putting in the work my whole life. To be recognized on the national stage has been one of the greatest recognitions I have ever received.”

Next fall, he will play for the University of Pennsylvania.

“I’ll be getting a good education, and hopefully, I will continue to have a good college career in soccer there,” he said.
