The presentation of plans for the White Clay mixed-use development in New Garden Township drew more than 150 residents who wanted to voice their concerns over the project, writes Richard L. Gaw for the Chester County Press.

Among the issues raised during the presentation were how the project will affect the already-congested Route 41, any extra burden it will place on the Kennett Consolidated School District, and the negative impact it may have on the environment.

According to JPMorgan Chase’s plans, the proposed 200-acre project will consist of both residential and commercial elements. These also include a retail food store, a potential indoor training facility, and outdoor multi-purpose athletic field.

The plan also calls for several patches of open space, streams, ponds, and trails.

To address the concerns of those present, development coordinator Bill Romanelli said the aim was “not to overwhelm any specific township police department, schools, and EMS facilities, so we tried to come up with a mixed-use plan that would accomplish that goal.”

He also assured the audience that what was presented is a sketch plan that will be followed by further amended plans.
