SHiNE, a volunteer organization that provides services designed to give every patient every advantage in their battle with cancer, will celebrate 21 years of lighting the way to excellence in cancer care close to home on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Paradocx Vineyard in Landenberg.

The event – SHiNE in the Vines – will be held from 3-7 PM and will feature delicious wines, local fare, live music, bonfires, s’mores, raffles, and more.

SHiNE will honor Laurie Hissey with the 2019 Donald F. Parsons Sr. Shining Star Award for the significant impact she has made on patients living with cancer. Hissey serves as the Director of Paddle Tennis at Radley Run Country Club, and each November, she holds a paddle tennis tournament there to benefit SHiNE.

She has raised almost $50,000 since 2016 to provide patients with rides to and from treatment, massage therapy, acupuncture, and emotional support.

Throughout the last 21 years, the support that the Parsons family has provided SHiNE has been constant. In the beginning, the Parsons believed in the concept of helping patients confront their challenges with dignity, determination, and hope. And their support helped SHiNE grow and find ways to improve the patients’ experiences and outcomes in concrete and measurable ways.

We are fortunate to live in a community where exceptional cancer treatment is practiced every day at The Abramson Cancer Center at Chester County Hospital. SHiNE aims to provide support to the individual so that his or her strength, courage, and heart will continue to shine.
