For more than three years, the members of the Ware Model Railroad Club in Oxford’s Ware Presbyterian Village have been hard at work on their unique model train setup, writes Chris Barber for the Chester County Press.

The collection of model trains, miniature buildings, and elaborate transformers is located in the basement of the original Ware Mansion.

The project started when members of the Ware Village administration realized there was interest in model trains from some of their residents. Three of them – Bob Undercuffler, Bob Philhower, and Gene Garthwait – were called in to make plans and develop a room for their hobby.

“They brought me to this basement room, 16 by 16 square feet, where people used to sit and play cards,” said Undercuffler. “They asked, ‘Would this work?’ I said, ‘Yes, it would be a start.’”

Soon after, the club started to take off and it was not long before an expansion was needed. Now, the club takes up the mansion’s entire underground level and has become one of the most visited sites in the village.
