The Hagelauer family of Exton is among the semifinalists in the Disney and Points of Light Volunteer Family of the Year contest, writes Brock Koller for 6ABC.
The family has been nominated by Aidan’s Heart Foundation for its work in spreading the extremely important, life-saving education on Sudden Cardiac Arrest.
Kelly Hagelauer is the founding member of AHF. Her entire family has been involved with the organization since its inception.
“Our family’s most passionate and personal service is preventing and protecting young hearts from cardiac arrest,” said Hagelauer.
Nine years ago, the son of Kelly’s best friend Christy Silva, seven-year-old Aidan, died from Sudden Cardiac Arrest. AHF was formed to create communities that are heart-safe and educated in CPR and have Automated External Defibrillator training.
Hagelauer helped the organization raise $40,000 in fundraising and her lobbying efforts also helped to pass Aidan’s Law five years ago. The law mandates all schools statewide be equipped with updated AED devices.
Her two children, Eloise and Noah, also volunteer with AHF.
The winners will receive a week-long trip to Walt Disney World Resort and be part of Disney’s Family Volunteer Day celebration on Nov. 23.
