Officials at the Second Century Alliance’s Community Update held at the Brandywine Health Center last week agreed that Coatesville is looking at a bright future after decades of hardship, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News.

“The buzz is very real,” said James Logan, Coatesville’s assistant city manager. “Wonderful things are happening, and we’re creating a healthy and progressive community.”

Most of the dozen speakers used their time in front of around 60 residents to talk about partnerships and sharing.

Jeffrey Hunt, the President and CEO of Brandywine Hospital/Tower Health, talked about the hospital’s growing role as a nonprofit.

He also said that, among other improvements, a new breast cancer center has been added and the nursing school has been renovated. Meanwhile, an auditorium with six conference rooms open to the community was established. All the changes have resulted in more than 100 new jobs.

Stephen Shinn of Midway Arts of Coatesville said the organization is renovating a five-story building into a restaurant space and artist studio.
