For nearly a decade, the Chester County Food Bank has been helping to stave off hunger for tens of thousands of residents by providing food and addressing the root causes of food insecurity in the hopes of having a long-term impact, writes Mercedes Thomas for County Lines Magazine.

Having started with just three full-time employees at a garage in Parkesburg, the Food Bank has grown to 32 employees and more than 3,000 volunteers. They mainly work at the organization’s 36,000-square-foot headquarters in Exton.

The employees and volunteers serve more than 120 food cupboards, meal sites, and social service organizations in Chester County by providing healthy food that includes plenty of leafy greens, colorful vegetables, and ripe fruits.

The Food Bank also partners with around 150 other organizations to help families get out and stay out of poverty.

“Our new tagline is ‘Beyond Hunger,’” said Ricky Eller, the Food Bank’s Executive Administrator and Advocacy Coordinator. “Going forward, we really want to get below the surface of food insecurity.”
