Gateway Horseworks, a Malvern-based nonprofit that uses horses to help people heal, is looking for a new and hopefully permanent home, writes Erin McCarthy for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

The nonprofit was started by Kristen de Marco four years ago. It helps recovering addicts, veterans with PTSD, people with mental illnesses, and families grieving the loss of a loved one. Some clients are also convicts preparing for their release back into society.

De Marco and her team of social workers, psychologists, and equine specialists provide anxious newcomers with much-needed support from animals that have not “read their file” and offer no judgment.

The nonprofit’s home was recently sold, and it has been struggling to find a replacement.

“We have had several promising leads for relocation, and one by one, they have fallen away,” de Marco wrote on Facebook. “While many people love what we are doing, and will happily accept our horses, no one wants our clients on their farm.”

Since the posting, Gateway Horseworks has managed to find a new, but very temporary home. Now, the founder is hoping to raise enough money to finally afford a permanent home.
