USA Technologies has appointed financial services veteran Robert Metzger to its Board of Directors, increasing the size of the board from six to seven members, writes Dan Norton for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Metzger has been lecturing at the University of Illinois’s College of Business since 2015 and before that, he was a partner at William Blair & Company where he managed technology investments and successfully completed more than 100 transactions for the firm.

“Rob brings with him a wealth of knowledge in finance and accounting, and especially dealing with public companies and capital markets. His extensive experience with the fintech and payments space will help guide us as we continue our growth and pursue our goal of driving additional value to each customer connection,” commented Stephen Herbert, CEO of USA Technologies.

USA Technologies has also promoted its former Vice President of Business Development, Michael Lawlor, to be its Chief Services Officer, filling the position that has been vacant since last year.

In his new role, Lawlor will supervise the growth of ePort Connect, USA Technologies flagship technology that provides cashless payment services to over 10,000 customers. As the company sees mobile and interactive payment technologies as the industry’s future, Herbert highlighted that Lawlor could play an integral role in overseeing that evolution.

With 300,000 out of its 350,000 connections benefitting from the company’s mobile payment compatibility, USA Technologies has the highest percentage nationwide in this area. Last year, the company was mentioned by Tim Cook, the CEO of Apple when he referred to USA Technologies as one of the leaders in mobile payment tech during an earnings call.

To further consolidate its position in this growing field, USA Technologies also acquired VendScreen in January to give its customers even more options in the mobile payment market. VendScreen’s interactive nature is more customer friendly, offering compatibility with Android Pay, Apple Pay and coupons, and allows its customers to have greater control over the payment process.
