The premiere of the seventh season of The Goldbergs features the family on a cross-country vacation, following the landmarks visited by Executive Producer and Jenkintown native Adam Goldberg with his real-life family while traveling the country, according to a report from Niagara Frontier Publications.

The inspiration for the episode that premiered last week ABC also came from the famous movie, Vacation.

Vacation was the one John Hughes movie we most related to,” said Goldberg. “In the Goldberg household, my mom, Beverly, was the Clark Griswold – always desperate to have family bonding time. This is why doing a Vacation homage was the perfect way to start off Season 7.”

Goldberg recalled how every family trip started by getting lost on an hourly basis because his father refused to use a map.

During the drives, his brother would drink too much soda and keep pestering their parents for a pit stop, but his mother would always refuse to make sure they stuck to the schedule.

“We weren’t the Griswolds, but we were close,” said Goldberg.
