Justin Low, the head brewer at Iron Hill Brewing’s West Chester location, believes the brewing industry needs more neighborhood pubs to continue to thrive in the future, according to a report by Breweries in Pennsylvania.

“Market is getting very tight on the shelves, and though there will still be a demand, I think the neighborhood pub is the route,” said Low. “We have such a great market and growth in this area, no reason for anyone to search anywhere else.”

Low started his brewing career as a hobby while he was working as an electrical engineer. He soon became interested in learning more about the science behind the brewing process and enrolled at UC Davis for its Master Brewing Program.

After completing the program, he got his first brewing job, as assistant brewer at Dock Street in Philadelphia. Before long, he was promoted to head brewer.

Today, Low considers himself lucky to be working as a brewer in Pennsylvania.

“It’s the best,” he said. “No other state I feel has the community, growth, and mostly state support that we do.”
