After finishing fifth in its inaugural season, Cal Plohoros, a 13-year-old Chester Springs resident, is heading back to American Ninja Warrior Junior for the show’s second season, writes Lauren McCutcheon for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Last week, Plohoros was in Los Angeles filming for show, the footage of which will air early next year on the Universal Kids Network.

As part of the show, contestants face off in pairs on twin obstacle courses. The competitors have to run, jump, and launch themselves over and under different objects in the under-one-minute race.

To prepare himself for the competition, Plohoros trains at iCore Fitness, a ninja gym in West Chester, where the obstacles mirror those on the show.

Interestingly, ninja sport is far from being all about winning.

“In no other sport that I’ve ever been a part of, have I ever seen every single athlete root for each other, for the competitors to want their competition to win in every way,” said Matt Cahoon, executive producer of American Ninja Warrior Junior. “They’re all about positivity and inclusivity.”
