The West Chester Studio for the Performing Arts at Uptown! will present Junie B. Jones, the Musical Jr. on Thursday, July 11 at 1 PM and Friday, July 12 at 10 AM and 1 PM.

Brought to life by talented young actors in WCStudio’s Kid Show Camp, the production is a delightful adaptation of four of Barbara Park’s bestselling books. Featuring many lovable characters and fun-filled songs, Junie B. Jones Jr. will capture your heart — just as the books captivated an entire generation of students and parents.

Join Junie on her first day of first grade, where many changes are in store: Junie’s best friend, Lucille, has found new best friends and Junie makes friends with Herb, the new kid at school. While in Mr. Scary’s class, Junie has trouble reading the blackboard … and she may need glasses. Add in a friendly cafeteria lady, an intense kickball tournament, and a “Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal” and first grade has never been more exciting.

Park’s chapter book series, Junie B. Jones, has been keeping kids laughing — and reading — for more than 25 years with more than 65 million copies sold. Young readers – as well as moms and dads, grandmas and grandpas, and aunts and uncles – will have fond memories of Junie B’s adventures.

The stage adaptation is created by Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich. With catchy, relatable tunes and the world’s funniest first-grader, Junie B. and friends sing songs like “Show and Tell”, “You Can Be My Friend,” and “When Life Gives You Lemons.”

Therese Walden Murphy, WCStudio Director, is excited by the progress the cast has made so far and looks forward to “a truly loveable production.”

“Each young actor performs with heart and soul beyond their years, and a great deal of talent,” she said.

The cast began rehearsals as part of the Kid Show Summer Camp for ages 8-14 on June 17. In just three weeks, they learn lines, songs, staging, and teamwork to bring an amazing show. Teen actors, ages 12-17, will begin the Teen Show Summer Camp on July 15. They will perform High School Musical from Aug. 1-3. Details and tickets for both shows can be found here.
