A monthly show on West Chester’s WCHE 1520-AM radio station offers a ray of sunshine amidst the bleak landscape of other news shows by only airing good news, writes Vinny Vella for The Philadelphia Inquirer.
“Good News Chester County” is a grassroots, homegrown program envisioned and hosted by two like-minded Italian Americans: Vince Melograna, an advertising executive for WCHE, and Lou Beccaria, president and CEO of the Phoenixville Community Health Foundation.
The two men came up with the idea for the show six years ago as a way to counter too much negativity in the mainstream media.
“This is a celebration of the human spirit,” said Beccaria. “There are people out there, humanitarians, who through only their own creativity are doing great things.”
The show provides various guests – ranging from the Chester County Commissioners to local senior center directors – with eight minutes in the spotlight to describe their program or organization that works on bettering their community. Each month, three guests are invited to appear on the show.
“There are so many people to meet, stories to tell, and contacts to make,” said Beccaria.
