A family of four in Exton was happy to find its new home in a three-story Victorian with a modern addition just a half-mile down the road from its previous one, writes Laura Hoover for The Philadelphia Inquirer.

Bill and Nicole Miller were not looking for a new home, but a majestic, 1875 house with a wraparound porch and plenty of updates caught their attention.

After a year on the market, the listing for the house was shared with the neighbors, and the Millers decided to drive by. The pair fell in love with the park-like nature of the 8.5-acre property, even though the home itself had some issues.

“The outside wasn’t quite fitting with the price tag,” said Nicole, a special-education teacher in the Downingtown Area School District.

Once the price dropped, they returned to look at the house two more times. The pair found the contrast between the new and the old to be “a dream come true.”

Soon, they decided to make an offer, and the family now has a new and much larger place to call home.
