Chester County, the wealthiest county in the state, once again rates as the best place to live in Pennsylvania, writes Samuel Stebbins for 24/7 Wall Street.

To find the best counties to live in each state, 24/7 Wall Street used metrics inspired by the Human Development Index. This measures poverty, the percentage of adults with at least a bachelor’s degree, and average life expectancy at birth.

Chester County has a poverty rate of 6.9 percent, or less than half the national rate of 14.6 percent. Meanwhile, life expectancy in Chester County is 81.2 years, compared to the state average of 78.8 years.

The county also has 51 percent of adults with a bachelor’s degree, significantly higher than the state average of 31 percent. This makes it one of only 50 counties nationwide with a population of at least 10,000 where more than half of all adults hold a bachelor’s degree.

Also, the county has a median annual household income of $92,417, almost $35,000 higher than the national median. This has affected housing prices, making it the most expensive housing market in the state.
