With a focus on freshness, quality, and authenticity, D’Ascenzo’s Gelato on East Gay Street in West Chester has crafted a crafted a product that is unrivaled anywhere in the state, as the business is being hailed as the Best Ice Cream Shop in Pennsylvania, writes Amy Schulman for Travel + Leisure magazine.

Yelp took a look at all businesses in the ice cream, frozen yogurt, and gelato categories and, using an algorithm, determined the best in each state based on the highest number of reviews and star rating.

D’Ascenzo’s Gelato stood alone atop the Keystone State.

Owners Glenn and Kristin D’Ascenzo were inspired to create their business in 1999, when they first enjoyed gelato during a trip to Rome. They thought the Italian treat should be offered at home in the States.

D’Ascenzo’s uses only the finest ingredients, as Glenn selects local, seasonal fruits and berries, along with the highest quality chocolate, vanilla, and coffees available. The business works with a dairy farm, Bailys of Pocopson, to deliver 100 percent natural milk from grass-fed, hormone-free cows. Each pan of gelato is crafted daily in small, individual batches right in their West Chester gelateria.
