West Chester will soon add Artillery Brewing – a family friendly, farm-to-glass microbrewery – to Chester County’s ever-growing list of brewpubs and microbreweries, writes Fran Maye for the Daily Local News.

The unique newcomer, owned by Michael Loveless, Paul Zippel, and Randell Spackman, will open on July 3 at the Thornbury Farm Market. It offers six handcrafted beers on tap, all made using ingredients from the family farm that dates back to 1709.

Among the current offerings are Cannonball, a Belgian ale, The Battle of Brandywine, a Belgian strong dark ale, and the Minuteman, a California session IPA.

Outside, Artillery Brewing’s beer garden can accommodate 350 people, while the enclosed taproom can hold 35. The outside also offers lawn games, including bocce and corn hole, as well as live music.

Additionally, the brewery has historic appeal, as it is located at the annual destination for reenactments of the Battle of Brandywine.

Artillery Brewing is open Fridays through Sundays.

“It’s like a three-day beer festival,” said Loveless. “What will make us competitive is our location, the fact that this is a working farm with a nice outdoor venue.”
