Exton native Taylor Jones and Jubal Schmit, a member of the Navy rugby team, tied the knot Saturday in Phoenixville, writes Jeff Skversky for 6ABC.

Schmit’s team was competing in the area, in the Collegiate Rugby Championship at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester. However, the groom, who plays the most physical position on the field, decided to sit out that day’s games to ensure that he didn’t show up for his wedding covered in bruises.

“I’m definitely more nervous for the wedding, but I keep my hopes out for the guys (that) they pull out a win,” Schmit said. (Navy won three matches on Saturday, before falling to Life University on Sunday.)

The bride was happy with his decision.

“He takes a pretty brutal beating every game,” said Jones.

Despite having to play three games, Schmit’s teammates were there for him on his big day. Just 90 minutes after the final whistle, they were already showered, changed, and driving from Chester to Phoenixville for the wedding.

Navy rugby player Cole Euverard even joked that the entire thing was “a little bit of a James Bond scene, getting dressed in the van.”
