Jared Nickens, a former Westtown School basketball star and a professional basketball player in Canada, has sued Epic Games over a dance used in Fortnite, its mega-popular video game, writes Adam Hermann for PhillyVoice.

In February, Nickens and Jaylen Brantley, both former players at the University of Maryland, filed a $5 million federal lawsuit against the company. They claim that Epic Games profited off the “Running Man Challenge,” a dance move they popularized in 2016.

In May 2016, the two players appeared on The Ellen Show to talk about their role in popularizing the dance move that they learned from an Instagram post of two New Jersey teenagers. The pair was at the birth of the social-media craze when people danced that particular move to “My Boo” from Ghost Town DJs.

In Fortnite, players can celebrate a win with emotes, dance moves, and celebrations that are acted out by their characters. The “Running Man” was added in September.

The game has also been sued by rapper 2 Milly over its use of the “Milly Rock” dance and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star Alfonso Ribeiro over the “Carlton.”
