Barclay Friends, the senior living complex in West Chester, has begun building a new personal-care center to replace the one that burned down in a devastating fire in late 2017, writes Erin McCarthy for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

“This is a new era for Barclay Friends, to be sure,” said Sean Kelly, president and CEO of the Kendal Corporation, of which Barclay Friends is an affiliate.

Unlike its predecessor, which had exterior walls made of easily flammable wood and vinyl siding, the new building will be made from steel and concrete. The exterior will be comprised of brick, stone, and flame-retardant siding.

The new 60-unit building will include 20 units for people with memory impairment and should be ready by next spring.
