Chicago-based BDO has agreed to acquire Malvern’s AC Lordi, an accounting and management consulting firm, and thus add 100 professionals to BDO’s offices in the Philly area, writes Jeff Blumenthal for the Philadelphia Business Journal.

The deal will become effective on June 1. Frank Lordi, AC Lordi’s CEO, and the firm’s other six principals will become BDO partners.

Founded 18 years ago, AC Lordi has 45 CPAs, but it focuses primarily on consulting work instead of tax and audit matters. AC Lordi specializes in technical accounting, risk and compliance, business advisory, and CFO services.

The firm’s client base is geared toward private equity firms and younger public companies, both national and international.

Lordi said that merging into a large firm such as BDO became necessary as their work became more sophisticated.

Jay Duke, the national managing partner of advisory services at BDO, said that AC Lordi could “play up market” with BDO’s client base and improve its presence in the Philadelphia area.

“Philadelphia is one of the top markets in the country, so this really means the world,” said Duke. “There are a lot of major private equity firms located in Philadelphia, so it’s great to have a practice there that can work with those types of clients.”
