Dave Fechtman, the CEO of Velocity Advisory Group in Chester Springs, recently sat down with Philadelphia Eagles coach Doug Pederson to discuss how to build a winning organization for Forbes.

When he became coach of the Eagles, Pederson inherited a team that had lost its starting quarterback. Still, he managed to find a way to lead the Eagles past the New England Patriots for the franchise’s first-ever Super Bowl victory.

As far as Pederson is concerned, leadership is all about cultivating relationships and building a culture of high performance.

“You have a diverse group of men in the locker room; they come from different backgrounds, cultures, lifestyles,” he said. “How do you tie all that together to play a game on Sunday?”

Pederson emphasized that listening is key.

“As opposed to top-down thinking, as an organization, we meet in the middle,” he said.

Another important factor is providing clarity. This is why he explains the why behind every decision and initiative, so that everyone understands their purpose.
