Originally due in mid-March, the colt of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah decided to come into the world early at Walnut Green Farm in Kennett Square, writes Shelly Stallsmith for the York Daily Record.

The colt’s mother, High Quail, gave birth last Friday.

Last month, Mark Reid the owner of Walnut Green Farm, set up a live webcam so that fans could watch the birth as it happened. Reid now has no intentions of removing the webcam any time soon.

“As any parent will tell you, births rarely happen according to plan, and this one was no exception,” said Reid. “But we’re happy that the colt has arrived and are looking forward to tracking his progress to see if he can follow in his legendary father’s footsteps.”

The colt is still waiting to be named. He has big shoes to fill, as his father won the vaunted Triple Crown in 2015. He was the first horse to do so since 1978.
