United Way of Chester County

Scott R. Fremont is the nonprofit’s new Vice President of Resource Development, having replaced Chris Saello, who was promoted to President and CEO in January.

Fremont comes to United Way from his alma mater, Monsignor Bonner (now Bonner & Prendergast High School) in Drexel Hill. There, he worked in the development office since 2013 and most recently served as Vice President of Advancement and Alumni. In his new role, Fremont will oversee all of the United Way of Chester County’s fundraising efforts.

“I am excited to be joining such a great organization – and have been very impressed by the passion of the team, dedication of the board members, and network of supporters that the United Way has created across Chester County,” he said. “I look forward to helping continue to grow the positive impact that UWCC has on the community.”

Fremont can be reached at sfremont@uwchestercounty.org.

Coatesville Youth Initiative

Applications are now available for the CYI’s Brandywine Watershed Discovery Camp, which runs from July 8-12 and is open to students who will be in grades 4-6 during the 2019-20 school year.

The camp offers students an exciting week-long journey into the Brandywine Watershed and includes environmental, science, history, and cultural education activities, wildlife study, water study, outdoor play, exploration of natural areas, field trips, and team-building activities.

Each day, from 9 AM-4 PM, youth will engage in hands-on, fun, and interesting activities that are designed to help them learn about the science, culture, history, and economics of the Brandywine Creek, the Brandywine River Valley, and the Brandywine Watershed. Through exciting activities, field trips, and guest speakers, students will learn the importance of protecting our most precious resource and become stewards of the Brandywine Watershed.

Chester County Clerk of Courts

The Chester County Clerk of Courts office is now accepting documents by electronic filing, or e-filing. The e-filing process allows lawyers to submit documents electronically, alleviating the need to visit the Clerk of Courts Office in West Chester. Once filed, lawyers can then view the documents on a case electronically, eliminating the need to again visit the Clerk of Courts Office to view paper files.

The Clerk of Courts e-filing process is available here through PACFile, a service that provides the option to file documents with the courts electronically on cases with an existing Court of Common Pleas case number. Filings can be submitted to the Supreme, Superior, Commonwealth and Chester County Common Pleas courts.

“This updated process is beneficial to our office, county taxpayers, and the attorneys needing to file court papers,” said Yolanda Van de Krol, Chester County Clerk of Courts. “It allows for a higher level of efficiency and cost savings. Costs in excess of $100,000 that would have been incurred to save our documents in the cloud, for example, are now borne by the state through PACFile.”

Immaculata University

Immaculata’s 13th annual Spirituality Day will be held on Saturday, April 6, beginning at 8:30 AM with refreshments, followed by the opening prayer and welcome at 9:15 AM in Alumnae Hall. The half-day event concludes at 12 PM. The keynote speaker for the morning will be Anne Kertz Kernion, owner/artist of Cards by Anne, an inspirational greeting card company founded in 1986. The event will focus on topics related to neuroscience and well-being.

Spiritual habits affect physical and emotional health in a variety of ways. Participants will explore recent findings in neuroscience and the Catholic contemplative tradition and its practices that will help people discover how to slow aging in our cells, maintain the health of the body and brain, and reduce stress. Also, participants will delve deeper into the practices of meditation, mindfulness, and gratitude and will have an opportunity to experience, discuss, and ask questions.
