A mysterious street artist from Newtown Square who uses the pseudonym Cassius King is making the everyday commute in Chester County more entertaining with his street art, writes Pete Bannan for the Daily Local News.
“I started getting ideas that you could alter street signs for the entertainment of commuters,” he said. “If someone could get the connection or smile, that was my goal.”
So far, King has created 75 roadside diversions. The first was his image of Tom Petty created in October 2017. It was a tribute to the hit song from the deceased rocker created on a “Learn to Fly Here!” sign near Brandywine Airport.
But while he told friends and other artists about his art, King chooses to remain anonymous and let people focus on his art. He also believes that authorities should welcome his work as it livens up the usually bland signs that are often overlooked.
“I’m not worried of legality; the content has never been edgy enough, and it’s not permanent,” he said.
