Prior to the West Chester University men’s basketball game against Kutztown last weekend, and in front of a crowd of more than 1,000 people, the WCU Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) continued what has become something of a tradition: granting a child’s wish in partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The SAAC dedicates much of its work throughout each academic year to the support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Through countless fundraisers and Make-A-Wish events, the main goal of SAAC is to raise enough money to cover the cost of granting a child a wish in partnership with the Foundation.

This initiative is unique to NCAA’s Division II, and it is something that the SAAC has been a leader in during recent years. (The Golden Rams have now been fortunate enough to grant a wish three years in a row.)

This year, the SAAC was able to work with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to identify a child to come to campus for a wish reveal. Brody, an Eagleville native, was the perfect choice.

Brody has been diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension, which creates high blood pressure in the arteries to the lungs, making the heart work much harder to pump blood and making it a struggle to breathe.

The SAAC, scores of other WCU athletes, and fans were on hand to surprise Brody by revealing his wish: to travel to Disney World in March with his family. The SAAC provided Brody with all the supplies needed for an enjoyable flight, including some new luggage, a Golden Rams shirt, a stuffed version of WCU’s mascot (Rammy), and some fun activities.
