VIDEO: Immaculata Students Have New Place to Build Friendships, Find Sense of Belonging

By

Officials at Immaculata University unveiled the new IHM Student Center, which took less than a year to construct, last Thursday at a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Named in honor of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM), the center provides an inviting space where all students – both graduate and undergraduate, both residents and commuters – can build friendships and find a sense of belonging within the university community.

The IHM Student Center spans three stories and approximately 11,000 square feet and sits on a steeply sloped site with panoramic views of the Great Valley. Its features will include:

  • a 20-foot-high lounge area with a dramatic floor-to-ceiling stone fireplace, plenty of soft seating, and a large television screen
  • a dining area with a snack bar, an open grill, and a self-serve counter for beverages and milkshakes
  • 34 exercise stations with state-of-the-art equipment, including machines outfitted with LED monitors for streaming shows
  • a game room with two electronic gaming stations, a shuffleboard table, ping-pong table, pool table, and vending machines
  • a multi-purpose room equipped with a projector, screen, and two large television monitors to facilitate movie nights, club meetings, and musical or theatrical performances

The new gathering space is sure to facilitate the lively discussions, close friendships, and social energy that are the hallmarks of the university’s student body.

“This is a very exciting day for Immaculata University,” said President Barbara Lettiere. “The building is a testament to one of the central charisms of our IHM sisters, and that is creative hope.”
