On Monday, VISTA.Today had an informative article about how the partial government shutdown is affecting Chester County. I want to take that article one step further.

No matter what side of the isle (or wall) you are on, this shutdown is affecting all of us.  My heart goes out to not just those 2,000 Federal workers but also the many people who are suffering from this not only emotionally, but also financially and spiritually.

I want to put my feelings into action.

There are so many people who never thought the Chester County Food Bank would be a necessary place to get food, education, and supplies for themselves or their family.

As I looked at their website and saw the many ways I could help them meet the rising demand for the 120 member agencies they serve, I wanted to educate myself and my community.

One simple way is to add some items to your grocery list the next time you go shopping. The Chester County Food Bank is always in need of pasta, rice, canned fruit and vegetables, canned chicken and rice, peanut butter and healthy cereal and oatmeal.

These are items we take for granted when we open our shelves in our home. Food donations can be brought to the Food Bank’s warehouse loading dock entrance where drivers can pull directly in be assisted unloading their vehicle.

If that’s not convenient, they make it very easy to make a cash donation where 89% of your donation goes directly to the program and operating costs for those struggling with food insecurity in Chester County.

And lastly, I would like to offer my counseling services for one free session to any of the federal workers or their families that would like support during this difficult time.
