Okay. Ready or not, 2019 is really, truly here. Soon, it will be February, so you might as well embrace it. There’s one thing I’ve found always makes the self-flagellation of the new year resolution schlep go over more smoothly, and that’s a little gift buying for yourself.
Call it self-love, call it personal spending – call it whatever you want. The truth is you probably deserve it. Especially after the long holiday season spent thinking of others and putting yourself second.
– KitchenAide Electic Tea Kettle — This kettle has made my most difficult resolution much less painful. I love coffee; like really love it. But I’m slowly learning the key to a good night’s sleep is switching to a decaf tea after lunch. It’s also quick and much less noisy than a traditional oven-top kettle.
– Apple Watch Series Four — I was super skeptical of the Apple Watch when they first came out a few years ago. But now that they look great, work seamlessly with all my health apps, and let me answer phone calls I am totally onboard. Super cool. 100% converted.
– Lululemon Wunder Under Yoga Pants — My favorite yoga pants. These high-waisted leggings are made with high-quality luon nylon so you know you’ll look great when you check your alignment in the studio mirror. Pro Tip: Stash your keys and gym membership in the waistband pocket.
– Liforme Yoga Mat — This holy grail of yoga mats is also one-hundred percent biodegradable and comes with a super helpful, intelligently designed pose chart to help you maximize your stretch and find yogic bliss. It’s also thicker and wider than the cheap bath mats passing for yoga mats these days. Pro Tip: Buy two and bribe a friend into making daily yoga class a thing. It’ll help you stay accountable and looking great.
– Canon T6 DSLR Bundle — If you haven’t scoped out these amazing Canon camera bundles I don’t know what you’re waiting for. They offer everything you need to rekindle an old hobby or jump right into a new one – all for less than you would spend on the camera body at Best Buy. For those of you looking to sharpen or learn photography skills in 2019, look no further.
– The Oral B Genius Pro 8000 — Like your phone, TV, computer, or any other device that isn’t a hammer, the toothbrush game is changing – and fast. Stay modern and keep your chompers clean with the latest in hygienic tech. Your dentist will thank you.
– RAK Universal Socket Grip — Hardcore DIYers rejoice: you finally have a useful tool that fits in one of your kitchen drawers. If you aren’t immediately psyched about a universal socket wrench then I can’t help you. Fits 7-19mm bolts. Pro-tip: Pretend this a gift for the handyman in your household.
– Adidas Women’s Edge Lux Clima Running Shoe — I wasn’t a big runner until I found the right (cute) shoes. These are the right shoes. They’re also great for running errands after a workout and can double as hiking shoes in a pinch during the dryer months.
– Nike Men’s Free RN Running Shoe — Good running kicks support the whole body – not just your parts nearest the pavement. That’s the reason these guys are Nike’s go-to for elite runners and Saturday morning joggers alike. They look great, too.
– Amazon Kindle Paperwhite — Lightweight and easier to read than ever, the Kindle Paperwhite means you’ll have no trouble meeting – and exceeding – your reading goals this year. Pro-Tip: Break up with Netflix for a month; load up your Kindle and find a quiet place to be alone with a great book.
– Deep Work: Rules for Focused Success in a Distracted World — The book the working world is losing its mind over in 2019. This may be the most important item on my list – especially if you’re like me and you struggle to find your “zone” every minute of every day. Learn what researchers are learning about the human brain, how it works, and how to protect your attention from a world designed to distract.
