Jon Cohn – the CEO of Agri-Kind Hemp, an offshoot of Exton-based Agronomed Pharmaceuticals – is ready to take full advantage of the anticipated boom in the hemp industry, now that the Farm Bill has been approved, writes Sam Wood for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

In 2018, Cohn planted 62 acres of industrial hemp in West Grove for a small pilot program. Despite 10 percent of the hemp being lost to mold that accompanied the constant rain during harvest season, he considers the program a success.

He said that his company has put the flowers into nitrogen storage for processing. The cannabinoids he extracts will infuse skin and body creams to treat pain, and his products should hit local shelves this month, with a national rollout set for February.

The Farm Bill recently signed by President Donald Trump includes a provision that legalizes hemp grown within the country. However, hemp farming will still be heavily regulated.

“Not just anyone can plant hemp in their backyard gardens,” said Shannon Powers, spokeswoman for the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.
