GQ, the popular men’s magazine, heaped praise upon Philadelphia in its latest issue, and named the City of Brotherly Love its City of the Year, writes Claire Sasko for Philadelphia magazine.

Writer Zach Baron from Germantown penned the two-page article entitled “Philly (Is) Special.” In it, he labeled Philly a model city with a Super Bowl-winning NFL team and a newly emerged, radical political class.

He wrote that, in 2018, Eagles players became activists who spoke out about the flawed criminal-justice system, Larry Krasner was elected District Attorney and became the most progressive D.A. in the nation, and Philadelphia restaurants became a regular feature on Bon Appétit’s list of the Best New Restaurants.

“It just feels … different in Philadelphia these days,” wrote Baron.

The article also includes four mini-interviews with Philadelphia newsmakers, including Krasner, Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins, rapper Meek Mill, and South Philly Barbacoa chef and co-owner Cristina Martínez.

Each of them showed enormous love for the city, with Jenkins emphasizing that Eagles fans are no worse than his father, who will often criticize him after he misses a tackle.
