Chrissy Houlahan, the newly elected member of Congress from Chester County, is hitting the ground running with her bid for co-chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee, writes Lindsey McPherson for Roll Call, a newspaper that covers Capitol Hill.

Houlahan believes that the almost 60 incoming freshmen need to be represented while the caucus creates its messaging strategy.

“I think that people recognize that there is this great big class of people who are coming in with kind of fresh experience and fresh legs and fresh ideas,” said Houlahan.

She is running for one of the three co-chair slots on the messaging arm of the caucus. While there are at least five other candidates, Houlahan is the only member of the incoming class vying for one of the slots.

Houlahan acknowledged that her late entry puts her a little behind. But she believes that her diverse background as an engineer, veteran, businesswoman, and educator gives her a unique skill set.

“We need someone who’s been through this recently to be able to have that conversation about what it is really like to be a candidate or a congressperson in the post-Trump environment,” she said.
