Christian Dalzell, the founder of a real estate investment and management firm in Connecticut, believes that the days of Philadelphia being overlooked by investors are coming to an end, writes Cathy Cunningham for the Commercial Observer.

Dalzell, who went out on his own two years ago after two decades in industry, has put his focus on investing in multifamily properties in Philadelphia, due in part to the city’s influx of millennials.

“It makes sense to follow millennials because they’re going to the places that are affordable, fun, and enjoyable and where there are career opportunities,” he said.

He also looked at the macro economy in general and decided on Philadelphia due to its strong healthcare and education infrastructure.

“You have these institutions like the University of Pennsylvania, Drexel University, and Temple University, 115 (colleges and) universities in total with 400,000 students,” Dalzell said.

Despite all of its advantages, he believes Philadelphia is not seeing more investments because of negative perceptions.

People “don’t realize that the 55,000 jobs that have been added over the last seven years have been in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics and eds and meds,” he said.
