A report published by RENTCafe using data from the U.S. Census shows that several ZIP Codes in Philadelphia are hotspots for millennials, writes Zoe Braccia for The Daily Pennsylvanian.
The Internet listing service found that Philadelphia’s Kensington neighborhood is eighth on the list of ZIP Codes nationwide with the highest growth of millennials from 2011 to 2016.
The report shows a 37.4 percent increase in Kensington, which translates to approximately 11,200 millennials.
Manayunk checked in at No. 2 on the list of ZIP Codes with the largest share of millennials, with a density of 71 percent.
Center City West also made a good showing, placing 19th with a millennial population of 60 percent.
According to 2014 statistics from the Pew Charitable Trusts, Philadelphia’s millennial population grew by 100,000 between 2006 and 2012. This is the largest increase in any of the populous cities across the nation.
Over the same time period, high millennial densities were also found in Center City, West Philadelphia, and several South Philadelphia neighborhoods.
According to the Pew report, the influx of recent college graduates coming into Philadelphia’s inner-city population is the result of the growing popularity of small neighborhoods outside urban centers.
