Saints Peter and Paul Catholic School in West Chester and Saint Mary Magdalen Catholic School in Media are among this year’s recipients of the prestigious National Blue Ribbon, writes Kristen Graham for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The National Blue Ribbon is awarded by the U.S. Department of Education to schools for excellence, which shows in either their academic achievements or in their accomplishments in narrowing the achievement gap.

“We recognize and honor your important work in preparing students for successful careers and meaningful lives,” said U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos. “Congratulations on your students’ accomplishments and for your extraordinary commitment to meeting their unique needs.”

The two schools are among 349 across the country to receive the annual honor. Nine other schools from the Philadelphia area also earned the distinction. Private, public, and charter schools are all considered when selecting the winners.
