Over the weekend, golfers once again picked up their clubs for a good cause at the eighth annual Whitford Charitable Fund Classic at Whitford Country Club in Exton, writes Bill Rettew for the Daily Local News.

The Whitford Charitable Fund has already distributed more than $850,000 to more than 50 local organizations. Its mission is to “give back” to qualified Chester County nonprofits.

The sporting events kicked off with a ladies’ tennis tournament and continued with a sponsors’ team golf event on Saturday and a golf Pro-Am event on Sunday. But the highlight of the event is always the Gala Dinner Dance Auction.

“Whitford members take great pride in donating our facilities, time, items, and money to support the Classic every year,” said Andrew McReynolds, President of Whitford Country Club.

The 10 beneficiaries this year are:

• Coatesville Senior Center
• CVIM: Smiles for Jackie Fund
• Downingtown Library
• North Star of Chester County
• LaSata Farm
• Phoenixville Area Children’s Learning Center
• Safe Harbor of Chester County
• Great Valley Community Organization
• Uptown Entertainment
• Westside Community Center
