From DELCO: TIME Magazine Discovers Upper Darby’s ‘Genius Auto Shop Only a Woman Could Have Created’

Patrice Banks

The Girls Auto Clinic in Upper Darby swerves from the norm of auto repair shops by tailoring everything around the needs of women, writes Lucy Feldman for TIME magazine.

Located just off West Chester Pike, the shop is run by Patrice Banks, and her staff is almost entirely comprised of women. After the customers go through the garage, they are met with a quiet and pristine waiting room that offers Wi-Fi, a Roku-equipped television, a basket filled with board games and Legos, and even a nail salon.

She opened the shop last year after being inspired by her cousin’s dream of a female-run garage for women. Now, its clientele are 75 percent women who can also get their nails done while their car is being serviced, and their kids are also welcome.

In addition to the paid repair services, Banks and her staff also provide free monthly workshops on car maintenance.

“I always felt taken advantage of by mechanics,” said Banks. “I waited until the last minute to do repairs because I was afraid of being upsold.”
