Jalen Gaffney, a four-star basketball recruit and senior at the Westtown School, has committed to playing collegiately for the University of Connecticut, writes David Borges for the New Haven (Conn.) Register.

The 6-foot-2 combo guard from Columbus, N.J., pledged to the Huskies during his official visit to the school last week. Gaffney also had home visits with Xavier, Clemson, and St. John’s and was planning official visits to each school. However, UConn impressed him enough for him to accept its offer.

Gaffney boasts “Russell Westbrook-like athleticism,” according to his AAU coach, Mike Rice.

UConn had made adding Gaffney to its roster a priority. To ensure that, coach Dan Hurley and his entire staff recently watched the youngster at the Westtown School, just days before his much-anticipated visit.
