Workshops at Hammer & Stain in North Coventry Township are helping people transform unfinished wood into decorative wall pieces, writes Courtney Diener-Stokes for the Reading Eagle.

The paint-and-sip studio was opened by Lisa Scheidt, 53, in July. She found out about the concept when she wanted to get back to work and realized the challenges.

“It was difficult at my age to get back in the workforce,” she said.

However, Scheidt soon discovered Hammer & Stain in Pottstown, which seemed like the perfect fit for her artistic talent. When she discovered it was offering a licensing opportunity, she took it. With license in hand, she spent four months looking for the perfect location and found it in North Coventry Township at a small strip across from the Coventry Mall.

“I opened the first week in July and held the first workshop on July 6,” she said.

Scheidt describes her classes as similar to canvas painting, but using wood and stencils. The low-pressure project guides participants through every step with an instructor to provide guidance.

People can sign up for a weekend workshop or book a private event for up to 45 people.
