Pennsylvania placed 29th among 2018’s Best & Worst States for Women’s Equality, a list published by WalletHub.

After the U.S. fell four places to 49th out of the 144 countries on the Global Gender Gap Index, WalletHub examined the situation internally to find where in American society women receive the most equal treatment.

WalletHub then compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across three key areas, including Workplace Environment, Education and Health, and Political Empowerment.

Those areas were evaluated using 16 key metrics, including the gap between female and male executives, the disparity between unemployment rates for women and men, differences in advanced educational attainment, and the share of lawmakers.

Pennsylvania’s best showing, at No. 13, was in the Education and Health category. The Keystone State also ranked in the upper half for Workplace Environment at No. 21. However, its worst rating was in the Political Empowerment category, where it placed 39th.

According to WalletHub, the best state for women’s equality is New York, while the worst is Utah.
